OUR STORY
Shun the Sun Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, raises money to build shade structures and educate the community on skin cancer awareness and prevention.
The Gilbert Marathon is a dream built by the founder of the Shun the Sun Foundation, Dr. Gregory S. Allen. Shun the Sun’s mission is to fight skin cancer. In our goal to do so, we will use the proceeds from our races to educate about skin cancer, donate sunblock to youth groups, and/or give a donation to medical facilities such as Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Banner Children’s Cancer Clinic or St. Jude’s. Thank you for supporting our events and our ultimate goal of fighting skin cancer.
OUR TEAM
Yvette Rangel, Race Director
Hello and welcome to the Gilbert Half Marathon and 10K races! I am so excited to be a part of bringing this racing event to the Valley! I have run over 100 races from marathons to ultras to 10 and 5ks in the U.S. and abroad. Running has brought so many positive things to my life: clarity, balance, self-confidence, travel, getting to see parts of a city/country I wouldn’t see otherwise, and meeting people from around the world... just to name a few.
My goal is to take all my experience running and make this an awesome race that will bring you that same positive feeling! Come out, run, walk, cheer or volunteer, all for a great cause: skin cancer prevention! Partnering with the Town of Gilbert for the Gilbert Days Parade makes this an unforgettable racing experience!”
